The national road 7 is known for its different landscapes, wide rice fields, rice fields in terrace, savannah, rocks, bush...and sea. This itinerary offers you the opportunity to discover many things about Madagascar in one trip so be sure to go visit Ranomafana national park and to go on a Isalo tour.
Night arrival at Antananarivo airport. Welcome and transfer to your hotel.
After a continental breakfast, drive to Antsirabe through typical and colorful landscapes. Stop at Ambatolampy (70 km) known for producing cooking-pots from recycled aluminum. Continuation and arrival to Antsirabe for lunch. Antsirabe means a place full of salt, the name of the city comes from the presence of hot springs discovered in the 19th century by Of Norwegian missionaries. Transfer to your hotel, then mid afternoon city tour by rickshaw to visit local craftsmen. Dinner and overnight at your hotel. Read more
Continental breakfast then road to Ranomafana known for its national park. Stop at Ambositra, the city of roses and the capital of handicraft (woodcarving, marquetry…visit of a small manufactory and walk along the street of stores. Lunch at Ambositra then continuation to Ranomafana. Arrival at Ranomafana and transfer to your hotel. Before dinner, small nocturnal walk along the main street to discover some species of animals (Frogs, chameleons, nocturnal lemurs…) Dinner and night, then prepare to visit Ranomafana National Park. After continental breakfast, head to visit Ranomafana National Park, vast rainforest where you can discover 12 species of lemurs, 95 species of birds , reptiles, amphibians and the “Fosa” , unique feline. Walk up to the belvedere. Then, after visiting the park, visit of the hot springs pool that gave name to this area : Ranomafana. Lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch and after you finished to visit Ranomafana National Park, head to reach the historical and cultural capital of the country Betisileo. Fianarantsoa city, founded in1830 by Queen Ranavalona I, and have development with the arrival of the missionaries, 40 years later, becoming the centerpiece of Catholicism. This city has an important economic and commercial role, thanks to its situation : the RN7 (National Road); road between The East and The South of the country, as well as hosting a rail network. The economy of this town is based mainly on farming (rice, coffee, clove) wine production. Installation to your hotel. Read more
After continental breakfast departure for Ranohira. Stop at Ambalavao known for its weekly big market, zebus market, cellars, silk production, Anteimoro paper production. Visit of a small factory that still uses Arabic methods to product paper from a plant called Havoa. Continuation and stop at Anja Reserve to discover one of Madagascar emblems : the Maki Lemur. Then road through beautiful landscapes of savannah. Cross the famous Horombe Highland before reaching the superb stones of Isalo during the sunset. Early continental breakfast then departure to embark on a Isalo tour, a succession of canyons and oasis. The Isalo National Park extending over 3000 km between 820 and 1240 meters above sea level. The park is one of the most unusual landscapes in the country. On this Isalo tour you will discover its flora, which is one of the driest regions in the South including Pachypodium, baobab bonsai, aloe plants and more Euphorbes. First step on the Isalo tour: visit of Maki Canyon and its waterfall. Second step, walk till the natural pool. 06 Km walk. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. Read more
Drive to Tulear. Just after leaving Isalo Park, you’ll cross the famous city of Ilakaka, known for its sapphire searchers. The landscape will look drier. First baobabs will appear. You will be able to see the Mahafaly tombs along the road, decorated with various forms of Aloalo (funeral steles in wood artistically worked)eternal witnesses of the importance of ancestor worship in Malagasy society. At entry of Tulear, visit of the Arboretum, a botanical garden that will allow us to learn about the southern desert flora, and rare species of curative plants. Lunch and then transfer to Ifaty.
